The Public Library and Regional Archive Luís da Silva Ribeiro is promoting an Introductory Workshop to Genealogy, oriented by Dr. João Ventura, a Genealogist.
Knowledge of the past contributes to our understanding of the present. Knowing where we have come from is important for us to know who we are. With this in mind, from the 26th to the 30th of June, there will be an Introductory Workshop to Genealogy at this Library, which will attempt to provide those interested with the necessary tools to the elaboration of their genealogy.

João Manuel Diniz da Silva Ventura, 48 years old, born in Ribeirinha, Ilha Terceira, has a degree in Modern Languages and Literatures, in the variant of English and German Studies, by the University of Coimbra, and specialized in Documentary Sciences, particularly in Archival Techniques, by the same University.
He has been an Archivist for the Direcção Regional da Cultura (Regional Administration of Cultural Matters of the Azores) since 2007.
From 2004 to 2007, he has collaborated with the Centro de Conhecimento dos Açores, (Azorean Knowledge Bureau) where the scanning of Parish Records has begun.
He is a Genealogist as a part-time job, and has taught introductory workshops to Genealogy in the Azorean islands of Terceira, São Miguel and Faial, and in several places in California, U.S.A.
